OUD AL’WARD or Scattered Beauty

MOROCCO - 1913. Abducted and sold like an animal by slave traders, OUD AL’WARD, a shy and secretive teenager, seems destined for the hopeless existence of a servant, enslaved to the goodwill of an omnipotent master and the intrigues of his wives.

But in the village on the edge of the desert, where, in the company of other teenage girls, OUD AL’WARD is trained for her future life as a servant, from a young age, within her music-loving family, the young girl discovers, in wonder, music. Aware that a musical slave would be even more valuable than a simple servant, the slave trader in charge of educating the teenage girls agreed that OUD AL’WARD could play the lute.

Later, in the city of Fez, Oud joins the rich residence of a music master, in the company of his friend, Dow Sbah, a black slave, a few years older than him.

Astonished by her musical sensitivity and sensing OUD AL’WARD exceptional gifts, the music master decides to make her his student. He treated the young girl with respect and kindness, keeping her away from domestic chores and offering her to play in public at a reception given in his home.

The music master unwittingly exacerbates the jealousy of his wives and other slaves.

OUD AL’WARD’s talent and fame grew with each passing month. Invited to play in the most luxurious residences of Fez, Oud Al OUD AL’WARD was acclaimed as a diva by the city's notables. At first filled with pride, the music master gradually sinks into a jealousy mixed with desire for his young pupil. One night, he breaks into OUD AL’WARD’s room and rapes her...
